Al-Rawdah Al-Sharifah Guide

The virtue of Al-Rawdah, how to book a permit on Nusuk, visiting times for men and women, and etiquette.

The virtue of Al-Rawdah

The Prophet ﷺ said: "Between my house and my pulpit is a garden from the gardens of Paradise" (Bukhari & Muslim). Al-Rawdah lies between the Prophet's chamber and the minbar and is marked by its distinctive green carpet.

Booking through Nusuk is mandatory

Entry requires a prior permit issued in the Nusuk app. Visits are limited to one per set period, announced by the authorities (often once every 365 days at busy times; this may be relaxed). Check the current rules in the app before booking.

Booking steps

  1. Download Nusuk and register with your passport or visa.
  2. Add companions (family members) via "Manage companions".
  3. Choose "Prayer in Al-Rawdah Al-Sharifah", then the person and the date.
  4. Select an available slot and confirm. You receive a QR permit.
  5. Arrive 30 minutes early at the entrance shown on your permit.

When slots open

See our Nusuk Times page for daily opening times with a live countdown and audio alert, and the Fast-Track (Masar) guide for same-day booking inside Madinah.

Etiquette

  • Calmness; no raised voices or pushing.
  • Respect the allotted time (usually about 10 minutes).
  • Pray two rak'ahs and supplicate without rubbing walls or pillars.
  • Greet the Prophet ﷺ and his two companions when passing the noble grave.

Tips to improve your chances

  • Try exactly at slot-opening times; open the app 3 minutes early.
  • Use a strong connection and the latest app version.
  • If no slot appears, go back, re-select the person and reopen the slots page — slots don't refresh by themselves.
